It’s week two of the Gold Coast school holidays! If you are looking for a fun and active option for keeping the kids entertained check out Aerial Angels Academy.

Workshops for kids aged 5 years and up are offered on Tuesday the 15th and Thursday the 17th of April.

Participants will learn 1 hour of circus and aerial acrobatics such as mini tramp, tight-rope walking and hula-hopping. They will also do 1 hour of drama games.

Classes start at 10am and run for 2 hours. $18 per class.

Located in the nearby suburb of Miami, Mrs Red’s Art Room, is a studio offering a range of art classes for all ages and abilities.

School Kids: Educationally driven art workshops are offered for school aged kids each Saturday morning. Two, two hour workshops are offered- 9am is for Prep to Grade 3. 11:30am is Grade 4+

Holiday Program: The Easter school holidays are here and at Mrs Red’s Art Room the kids can unleash their creativity in a fun and supervised environment. The schedule is on Mrs Red’s Art Room website and activities available include creating ready to hang canvas’ and making a giant 3D squid!

Breathe in the fresh ocean air as you join in the celebrations of one of Australia’s best beaches. The day also marks the 30th birthday of Burleigh Beachfront Markets!

The markets will feature art and craft stalls, local produce, baked goods and fresh foods. The kids will be treated to face painting, balloons and a free jumping castle!

Situated on Burleigh Headland, John Laws park is ideally located for whale watching (seasonal), watching the surfers and taking in the views across to Surfers Paradise.

The hilled area is also a popular spot for walkers and joggers, surfers checking the waves and families enjoying picnics.

There are plenty of shops and cafes nearby including Nook Espresso where you can join throngs of locals getting their morning caffeine hit.

At the base of the hill there is also a great kids playground with swings and a climbing net, plus BBQs and public toilets.

Cooly Rocks On 2014

Cooly Rocks On is Australia's biggest 50s and 60s nostalgia festival. The annual event draws over 80,000 visitors to the Gold Coast for the two week festival.

A celebration of the Rock 'n' Roll era, 'Cooly Rocks On' treats festival goers to a wide range of shows and activities over the two weeks. On the final weekend, the roads along Coolangatta's beachfront close down to make way for a big street party.

Cooly Rocks On starts on May 30 and goes until June 9th. Here are just a few of the events on offer:

From group fitness classes to self-guided walks and intensive yoga retreats, there is an exercise option to suit everyone in Burleigh!

The Yoga Room – offering a wide range of options starting from beginners yoga courses, to intensive yoga ‘retreats’ and meditation sessions. Located on James Street, Burleigh Heads.

The Australian School of Meditation and Yoga – Bring along a towel or mat and attend a FREE beachside yoga class at 8am every Saturday in Justins Park, The Esplanade Burleigh Heads.

Tai Chi:
Australian Tai Chi Academy – No prior knowledge of Tai Chi required, just turn up at 6pm on Monday nights for a gentle twilight Tai Chi class (between 30 Sept and 31 March) Costs $2.

Running / Walking:
Self Guided - Take your own run or walk along the beautiful Burleigh Heads esplanade or up into the Burleigh Headland; the Oceanview Walk will take you on an easy 1.2km (one way) along rocky headland from Burleigh Heads to Tallebudgera Creek.
The Rainforest Circuit is considered easy grade but there is a steep section in the middle near Tumgum lookout and some stairs at the end. The 2.3km return trip provides some scenic look out points along the way that are great for whale spotting in season.

Heart Foundation Walking – Prefer company? Join this FREE community based walking group every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5pm on the north side of Burleigh Heads SLSC.

Burleigh Heads boasts one of the best surf breaks in Australia! Bring your own board or hire one from one of the surf shops. However, if you are not a seasoned surfer then a beginner lesson is your best option.

Cheyne Horan School or Surf – Get ready to experience the thrill of surfing! All equipment is supplied and lessons cost just $15. Every Sunday at 8am. Bookings required. Lessons are also offered at other times of the week, contact them for times and costs.

Mums activities:
The Original Stroller Group – Join other mums and bubs for some fun, outdoor, postnatal exercise. Mums with children of all ages are welcome. Fridays at 8:30am and 9:30am. Cost $5.

Group Fitness Training:
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday head to Rotary Park, The Esplanade (meet at the car park at the end of 3rd Ave) for a group session that includes circuits, boxing, core strengthening and stretching. Costs $3 and starts at 6am.

Burleigh Run Swim:
A yearly event that includes three race dates and an Australia day super challenge. The course if suitable for most fitness levels for competitors from 6 years to 60+ and includes a 400m swim and 3.84km run.

Govindas - Located on James Street this small restaurant/café offers a yummy selection of fresh vegetarian dishes. The menu includes curries, lasagna, amazing salads, kofta balls and much more. Oh and don’t leave without trying a dessert!

Raw: From Earth & Water - Head to West Street for fresh food prepared to be kept in it’s natural state. No pasteurized or processed ingredients, no animal products, no dairy, no wheat or gluten. But lots of flavour!

There are still a few weeks left of school holidays, and a Gold Coast holiday, staying in Burleigh Heads, will provide endless activities for the kids ... and you!

Of course, when visiting the Gold Coast the famed theme parks such as Movie World, Sea World and Dreamworld are a popular option. 

You can also spend your days swimming and surfing at the patrolled beaches of Burleigh Heads, or playing in one of the many playgrounds that pepper the Esplanade.
